(Herkimer, NY – July 2013) Two Herkimer County Community College students and one Herkimer High School graduate were recently awarded scholarships through the Herkimer County College Foundation.
Everett Thompson, Poland, NY is the 2013 Donovan Scholar as recipient of the Senator James H. Donovan Memorial Scholarship. Administered through the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Inc., this fund provides scholarships to Herkimer College students who are residents of Herkimer, Oneida or Lewis Counties. Recipients are chosen based on academic promise, involvement in community affairs and financial need.
Thompson is a Business Administration major at Herkimer College. He is a veteran of the Gulf War and has served as a board member of the Greater CNY National Association of Health Underwriters, Health Friends, CNY Medicare Advisory Board, and Broker Advisory Board for several insurance carriers.
Sarah Shorey, Oriskany, NY is the 2013 recipient of the Donald J. Mitchell Family Scholarship. The award is given to a student from Congressman (Ret.) Mitchell’s district constituency for their second year of study at HCCC. Administered through the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Inc., selection is based on demonstrated high school leadership and active community involvement. Academic promise is considered.
Shorey is an EMT Paramedic major at Herkimer College and member of the Peer Tutor Club.
Elise Glogowski, Herkimer, NY is the 2013 recipient of the Thomas J. and Joann L. Casale Family Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a Herkimer High School graduating senior who has written a winning essay about “The Positives of Living in Herkimer.” Sponsored by Jeffrey D. and Cynthia L. Casale, this award is equal to one year of tuition at Herkimer College.
Glogowski is a 2013 Herkimer High School graduate and plans to attend Herkimer College in the fall.
