From the Clinton Chamber of Commerce
(Clinton, NY – Aug. 2013) Saturday, Aug. 24 marks the date for the 8th Annual Art and Music Festival in Clinton.
The one-day event, which encompasses the entire downtown business district, consistently welcomes thousands of visitors to the central New York village and is touted by it’s organizers as a final celebration of summer.
The festival, organized by the Clinton Chamber of Commerce, features more than 50 invited artists and craftspeople dispersed over the downtown landscape displaying, demonstrating, and selling their unique work.
There are also a number of children’s activities, including an art tent that invites children to participate in creative projects at no charge, a 30 foot climbing wall, face painting, and a musical instrument petting zoo.
Pottery wheels will be set up for the popular “tallest pot” competition in which a cash prize will be awarded to the person who throws the tallest pot.
A number of food vendors will offer an interesting variety of healthy menu items. And of course, Clinton’s diverse shops and restaurants will all be open and celebrating the influx of visitors in their own special way. The festivities start at 10 a.m.
The highlight of the festival is the continuous schedule of live music that starts at noon and goes on until dusk. The festival boasts eight different live music sites, with the main stage on the gazebo facing the wide expanse of lawn on the Village Green.
The schedule features a line-up of 20 different local and nationally touring acts. The music is an eclectic mix, ranging from the Americana sounds of Poor Old Shine from Connecticut and local favorites the Birdseed Bandits, to the high energy Gypsy sounds of returning guests the Caravan of Thieves, to the 10-piece swing and danceable arrangements of Puttin’ On the Ritz.
Other musical guests include Annie and the Hedonists from the Albany area, banjo player Zack Orion (perhaps best known to Brooklyn subway platform crowds), singer-songwriter Lorijo Manley, Monk Rowe and the Roots of Rock and Roll, and the exciting Gospel sounds of the St. Paul Choir from Utica.
There is no admission for the music events.
Thanks to the Town of Kirkland, the Fourth of July fireworks that were cancelled due to weather have been added to the end of the Festival’s schedule.
