Oneida police patch(Oneida, NY- Sept. 2013) With school back in session Thursday Sept. 5, Oneida City Police would like to remind motorist to be alert to young kids walking to and from school crossing roadways and watch for school buses stopping to pick up or drop off passengers.

Motorists must stop for a stopped school bus that has its red lights in operation while stopping to pick up or drop off students. This includes school driveways, private roads or divided highways.

With the increased school traffic motorists should allow themselves additional time to get to work.  All school zones in the City of Oneida are posted with a 20 mph limit, which is in effect on all school days from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Crossing Guards will be in place on school days from 8 to 9 a.m.  and at 2:45 to 3:45 p.m.

On early dismissal days the crossing guards will be on post for 1 hour at time of dismissal.

Crossing Guards will be at the following posts; Broad Street at Walnut, Main Street at Walnut, Elizabeth Street at Walnut,Elizabeth Street at East Ave., Seneca Street by the Seneca Street School, N. Broad Street by the N. Broad Street School and N. Main by the N. Broad Street School.

On Sept. 7 and 8 Grove Street between Main Street and Elizabeth Street will be closed, except for local traffic, for the annual Madison County Historical Society Craft Days. Elizabeth Street will be posted from the south end to Walnut Street for one side parking to allow for emergency vehicle access. Additional areas may be marked off for safety purposes.
