(Cazenovia, NY – Sept. 2013) CRIS-CAT (Cazenovia Area Transportation) has successfully been providing the greater Cazenovia community with a free transportation service for seniors since 2010.
To date, 1,200 rides have been provided by volunteer drivers who have driven a total of 40,000 miles to medical appointments, grocery stores, libraries, social events and many other locations. The drivers donate their own vehicles and fuel to transport residents age 55 and older in the Cazenovia, Nelson, and Fenner townships.
This service is a program of CRIS (Cazenovia Area Senior Resources), a non-profit organization to benefit the needs of seniors with the goal of seniors remaining in their community.
Since CRIS-CAT has been expanding due to its success and need in the community, more volunteer drivers are needed. Drivers that have a good traffic record and can devote some time during the week (most rides are on Monday through Friday) once or twice a month would be most appreciated.
Anyone interested can call 655-0612 for more details.
Drivers and riders have reported many satisfying experiences; many new friendships are formed and some riders who can no longer drive feel that this allows them to remain in their home and community.
One volunteer driver said, “I am very happy to drive for CRIS-CAT. I would love to have this service available when I need it”.
