(Marcy, NY – Sept. 2013) SUNYIT’s Provost’s Lecture Series continues on Friday, Sept. 13, 9:30-11 a.m., with a presentation by Mas Subramanian, Milton Harris Professor of Materials at Oregon State University, entitled “Inventing Color – Discovery of New Indium-containing Blue Pigment. The presentation will be held in the Student Center theater.

Subramanian is credited with discovering a “new type of durable, environmentally benign blue pigment found to have unusual characteristics in reflecting heat, a ‘cool blue’ compound that could become important in new approaches to saving energy in buildings,” according to Oregon State.

After 22 years as a senior research scientist with DuPont, Subramanian joined the department of chemistry in Oregon State’s College of Science in 2006. He holds several degrees in solid state chemistry and chemistry: a Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India, and an M.S. and B.S. from the University of Madras. He has published more than 300 scholarly articles and holds more than 60 patents.
