(Marcy, NY –Sept. 2013) The RoboSpartans robotics team recently began their 4th season in high school level robotics by hosting a FIRST Tech Challenge Chassis Quick Build Workshop and Season Kick-Off at SUNYIT on Saturday, Sept. 9.
Ten local teams, along with several coaches from the Capital District, attended the event in the SUNYIT Student Center. The free workshop included sessions on problem solving, programming, wiring, and engineering notebook documentation.
Those not attending workshop sessions participated in collaborative building of new robots for rookie teams. Four teams were able to start the day with a box of parts and leave with working robots thanks to the efforts of veteran teams, college students and engineers.
In the afternoon, the event included a teleconference with Pace University, the Regional FIRST Tech Challenge Partner and an unveiling of the 2013-2014 “Block Party!” Season Challenge. Teams at Pace and SUNYIT learned about changes to this season’s tournament structure that include a new Qualifying Tournament at SUNYIT on Dec. 8 to be hosted by the RoboSpartans #4082.
The 2013-2014 RoboSpartans are Maysara Elazzazi, Gwynnie LaMarche, Jason Martino, Devavrat Nopany, Ryan Payne and Aidan Uvanni. Team members are from New Hartford, Whitesboro and Utica. The team coaches are Bob and Lisa Payne of New Hartford.
