(Norwich, NY – Oct. 2013) The public is invited to the first free film of the monthly 2013-2014 “Second Tuesday Film Series” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8 in the Founders Room at the United Church of Christ, 11 West Main, Norwich.

This screening, another educational documentary on a current issue, is titled “Bidder 70.”  It is the true story about George W. Bush’s plan to give gas and oil corporations thousands of acres of public land at the end of his presidency by fast tracking a federal auction in Utah. A local college student, Tim DeChristopher, put a spotlight on the process by winning the bids to save 22,000 acres of wilderness but did not have the money to pay.

“Bidder 70” is a shocking look at how far our government,  working for the energy industry, will go to crush even one voice of objection.  It also shows the personal evolution of DeChristopher into an ingenious climate justice leader as he undergoes the consequences.

The film series, now in its eighth year, screens documentaries about the environment, social justice and peace issues for the public. It is co-sponsored by Chenango County Peace Action and Chenango Community Action for Renewable Energy (C-CARE).  The program also offers attendees a light supper at 6:30 before the show and encourages discussion afterwards.  Please note parking is available on the street, in the Hayes Street and County Office Building Parking lots, but not in the church’s lot behind it.
