Edgar Allan Poe’s grotesque, horrific and heart-wrenching tales were the inspiration behind One October Midnight, a whodunit murder mystery musical foul with suspense, terror and lost love. Follow the 1940’s gumshoe Inspector Wilson on his manic chase through the haunted streets of Baltimore to capture the infamous October 9 Serial Killer.  The Bells, The Tell-Tale Heart and The Fall of the House of Usher are a few of Poe’s works that motivated the creators of this production.

One October Midnight was first presented to sold out crowds in June 2013 as part of The Finger Lakes Musical Theater Festival’s new musical series, The PiTCH.  Musically stirred by the preludes and nocturnes of Chopin and Rachmaninoff, One October Midnight brings the pit orchestra to the stage as cast members accompany one another on flute, baritone sax and organ.  Original graphic novel-style projections by Montreal-based artist Lateef Martin, drop the audience clues along the way.

Book and music by Brian and Erin Schey, with book and lyrics by Thom Bishop. Starring in the show are Josh Wilmot as Inspector Wilson and Meghan Jo Clary as Sergeant Munson and featuring Jackie Aberi , Lillian Boberg, Mike Clark, Steve Condie, Ricky Ducane, Stephanie Figer, Morgan McIlvain, Nikki Schwarz, Alex Spear, Ryan Terhune and Caitlin Wilmot.

Thom Bishop is a dramatist and lyricist. His three-act drama American Express premiered at Sills and Company in Los Angeles, and his co-written musical Book of the Night, was produced on the main stage at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre. He contributed material to Mandy Patinkin’s Dress Casual, which ran at the Helen Hays Theatre on Broadway.

In 2002, his musical Seventeen on Mars, was nominated for a MAC award as Cabaret Song of the Year. Over the years, Thom’s work has been recorded by many highly celebrated artists including Bob Dylan and Richie Havens.

Brian Schey (Book and Music) is a bassist/composer/producer/engineer from Cupertino, California, who studied bass at Berklee College of Music in Boston and composed and arranged at the Dick Grove School of Music in Los Angeles. He has written for TV, stage, and film and has produced and recorded over 100 records. Schey has toured extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, Japan and Europe and has played with such icons as Joan Osborne, Ani DiFranco, Brett Dennen, Michelle Shocked and Louden Wainwright III.

Schey has composed and staged five original musicals. Erin Schey (Book and Music) is a Skaneateles native who studied voice, piano and theater at M.I.T. and Wellesley College. She has performed as a dancer, pianist, singer, and actress in TV commercials. Over past ten years Schey has lived in Colorado, Tokyo, and New York, recording and performing as a jazz vocalist, keyboardist and accordionist. In addition to her work as a producer and composer of original musical theater, Schey is the studio manager for Auburn Public Studio, the new theater arts school at Auburn Public Theater.
