LAPLACA(Watertown, NY – Nov. 5, 2013) – State Police in Watertown assisted the New York State Inspector General Office with the arrest of Watertown Correctional Officer Steven M. Laplaca, age 51.

Laplaca is alleged to have collected approximately $16,124 from the New York State Insurance Fund / Workers Compensation while providing false documentation of his alleged on-duty injury.  The alleged on-duty injury was documented as occurring at the Watertown Correctional Facility, 23147 Swan Road, Watertown on April 11, 2013 while Laplaca was responding to a personal alarm in the facility.

Laplaca returned to work on July 1, 2013.  He was charged with third-degree Grand Larceny (Class D felony), first-degree Falsifying Business Records (Class E felony), and Workers Compensation Fraud (Class E felony).

Laplaca was arraigned before Town of Watertown Judge Renzi and released pending Grand Jury action.
