(Waterville, NY – Nov. 13, 2013) State Police in Marcy are investigating a rollover accident on State Route 12 in the Town of Marshall in which a 6 year old child was critically injured.
Trooper Kyle Yerman of the New York State Police states that on Tuesday Nov. 12 at 7:57 a.m. Liberty J. Caye, 37, of Utica was south bound on State Route 12 in the Town of Marshall. Caye approached a curve in the roadway and started to lose control of his vehicle, a 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe.
Caye was unable to gain control of his vehicle and he crossed the north bound lane where he then exited the east shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle struck an embankment causing the vehicle to rollover and come to rest on its passenger side in a field. A passenger, 6-year-old Jayda Colter of Whitesboro was partially ejected out of the rear passenger side door, which had become ajar during the rollover. The vehicle was resting on Colter and several passing motorists stopped at the scene and assisted in rolling the vehicle off of Colter.
The Waterville Volunteer Fire Department and Waterville Volunteer Ambulance Corps treated Colter at the scene. Colter was transported to St Elizabeth’s Hospital by Waterville Ambulance and then transferred to SUNY Upstate Medical Center where she is listed in critical condition with head and chest injuries.
Caye and a third passenger, Elrick Colter, 14, of Whitesboro were not injured. Charges pending further investigation.
