(Ilion, NY – Nov. 13, 2013)  Herkimer Oneida Organizations Active in Disaster (HOOAD) Long Term Recovery Group (LTRG) held a public meeting Nov. 13 at the Annunciation Church Parish Center in Ilion to update the general community on flood response in Herkimer and Oneida Counties.

Two representatives from New York State Homes & Community Renewal attended the meeting to answer questions about the state flood recovery process and status in a public Question and Answer session. United Way updated the 2013 Flood Recovery Fund amounts awarded to Catholic Charities of Herkimer County and Catholic Charities of Oneida-Madison Counties. Application details and contact information were released for the two new Disaster Case Managers hired by Catholic Charities, whom will be serving the long-term flood cases in Herkimer and Oneida Counties.

2013 Flood Recovery Fund Update – For Long-Term Recovery

United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area announced the 2013 Flood Long-Term Recovery Funding distribution. Catholic Charities of Herkimer County is receiving $62,300 to distribute to those affected by the 2013 flooding. Catholic Charities of Oneida Madison Counties will receive $26,700 for its on-going efforts in Oneida County.

Fifty percent of funds pledged and collected during the 2013 Flood Recover Telethon with WKTV NewsChannel 2 and Roser Communications were used to support immediate disaster recovery efforts. The remaining 50% of funds collected was reserved to address the unmet needs many face during the long-term recovery process. Of this Long Term Recovery amount, 70% was designated for use in Herkimer County and 30% in Oneida County, as per assessed damage levels.

The total fund, in short, will be allocated as follows:

• 50% raised went to immediate disaster needs

• 35% for long-term unmet needs in Herkimer County via Disaster Case Management

• 15% for long-term unmet needs in Oneida County via Disaster Case Management
