(New Hartford, NY – Dec. 23, 2013) The RoboSpartans robotics team returned home recently following their win at the Finger Lakes FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Qualifying Tournament with two top trophies.  Twenty teams, mostly from western New York, made it to St. John Fisher College for the second of five qualifying tournaments for the Hudson Valley New York Region.

The RoboSpartans, the only team east of Syracuse to enter the event, took home the top prize of the Inspire Award.  Tournament judges recognized the RoboSpartans for the team’s commitment to continuous improvement, teamwork and worldwide outreach.

The team also won their way into the semi-final robotics matches where they partnered with Team Kilabots, a high school based team from Williamson, New York.  The pair ended their run in 2nd Place in the robot game, earning the RoboSpartans an additional Finalist Trophy.

The RoboSpartans are a 4th season robotics team participating in FIRST Tech Challenge.  FIRST – For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology is a multifaceted robotics program with over 3,000 teams from 11 countries.   They are one of several high school level robotics teams who now practice and compete together in Central New York.  RoboSpartans team members are from New Hartford, Whitesboro and Utica – three area school districts that typically are opponents in other sports.  Last weekend, the team hosted the 1st Annual Central New York Qualifying Tournament at
