American Heart Association says it’s an essential component of emergency preparedness
(Albany, NY – Jan. 2014) Governor Andrew Cuomo touched on two issues of critical importance to the American Heart Association in today’s State of the State – education and emergency preparedness.
“As a paramedic, I appreciate the governor’s commitment to emergency preparedness,” said Bob Elling, member of the New York Advocacy Committee of the American Heart Association. “The most important step to help communities during a crisis is increased bystander CPR. That’s why it is critical that the governor’s education reinvention includes the CPR in Schools bill. Schools prepare students to contribute to their communities, and knowing CPR ensures that neighbors will be able to help neighbors in times of crisis.”
“All of the first responder acknowledged at today’s State of the State know that the outcome for victims of sudden cardiac arrest who don’t have CPR performed can be tragic,” Elling said. “The governor presented a picture of a vibrant and thriving New York today. Let’s keep every New Yorker in this picture by making sure CPR is available should it ever be needed.”
