Vice President of Marketing Carol Eaton Named 2014 NYS Hospitality & Tourism Association’s Tourism Executive of the Year

Carol Eaton(Syracuse, NY – Jan. 14, 2014)  The Syracuse Convention & Visitors Bureau (SCVB) is thrilled to announce that Carol Eaton, SCVB vice president of marketing, is the recipient of the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association’s (NYSH&TA) 2014 Outstanding Tourism Executive of the Year award. Eaton will be recognized at the Association’s 2014 Stars of the Industry Gala & Awards Banquet at the Albany Marriott on Monday, March 3.

The Outstanding Tourism Executive of the Year award recognizes an executive who has demonstrated outstanding contributions of leadership and service to his/her community.

“Every year, the state’s hospitality industry nominates its most outstanding employees. After reviewing all of the nominations submitted, the judges agreed that Carol Eaton was the best of the best,” said NYSH&TA President Jan Marie Chesterton.  “All the winners of this year’s awards are STARS in every sense of the word and shining examples of what New York State hospitality is all about.”

Eaton has worked in the tourism industry for more than 30 years.  Throughout her tenure, Eaton has played an integral role in the advancement of Onondaga County as a meetings and leisure destination.  Eaton currently serves as New York State’s Regional Tourism Project Director for the Finger Lakes Tourism Region and chairs the recently established Finger Lakes Regional Tourism Council, in addition to her role at the SCVB.

“We are very proud of Carol’s well-deserved achievement,” said SCVB President David Holder. “She is a pivotal member of our team and always the voice of reason and integrity.  Our industry partners look to Carol to promote our destination. “

Nearly a dozen members of the state tourism industry submitted nomination letters on behalf of Eaton.

“Carol’s hard work and dedication in the hospitality industry throughout the years is admirable,” wrote Gavin Landry, executive director of NYS tourism. “She has worked passionately to spread the word about Syracuse and the Finger Lakes Region as a great destination to visit.”

NYSH&TA is celebrating its 21st annual Stars of the Industry program on the evening of March 3. The program recognizes the exemplary professionalism and the exceptional service of individuals in the hospitality and tourism industry.
