(New Hartford, NY – Feb. 3, 2014) The RoboSpartans Robotics team is heading to Pace University’s White Plains Campus for a regional 36-team tournament on Feb. 16. Teams from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania will compete in the Hudson Valley Regional Championship for an opportunity to move on to an East-Coast Super Regional in April.
The RoboSpartans won an opportunity to compete in their regional championship by receiving the Inspire Award, their league’s highest honor, at their first season competition at St. John Fisher College in December. The team also received a Finalist Alliance trophy for placing 2nd in the robot game. In their second tournament, last month in Albany, the team added to their trophy collection with a Think Award, for documentation of their engineering journey.
In addition to attending tournaments and working on robot improvements, the RoboSpartans recently met with United States Representative, Richard L. Hanna to give him an update on what they’ve achieved this season including hosting over 200 high school students from three states at SUNYIT in December for the area’s inaugural FIRST ®Tech Challenge Qualifying Tournament. The RoboSpartans each received a Congressional honor and flag that flew over the U.S. Capitol.
The RoboSpartans are a 4th season, privately funded, high school level robotics team participating in FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC). Team members are from New Hartford, Whitesboro and Utica School Districts.
