(New Hartford, NY – Feb. 2014) The RoboSpartans robotics team returned home from the Hudson Valley FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Championship at Pace University on Feb. 16 with the Think Award Trophy.  The judged award is given to the team that best reflects the “journey” the team took as they experienced the engineering design process during the build season, as documented in their Engineering Notebook.  The team’s Engineering Notebook describes the steps, brainstorms, designs, re-designs, successes, and those ‘interesting moments’ when things didn’t go as planned as well as their team activities and outreach in the community.  The RoboSpartans are known locally for their efforts to grow student robotics under FIRST – For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.  This is the second year the team has won the Think Award for the Hudson Valley and the team’s 4th trophy this season.

The RoboSpartans travel to Clarkson University on March 7 as defending Northern New York Inspire Award Champions.  The RoboSpartans attended the FIRST World Championship last April where they placed 4thoverall out of 128 teams from 11 countries.  They’ll be attempting a repeat win in order to move on to a new Super Regional Championship in York PA.
