state-police-seal-150x150(Oneida, NY – April 27, 2014) On April 27 at approximately 1:37 p.m. Oneida County 911 received a call from the CSX Railroad advising a freight train had struck and killed two pedestrians at the crossing intersection with Fox Road in the Town of Verona.

Investigation has revealed 59-yr-old, Earl L. Myatt and his spouse, 59-yr-old Mary M. Myatt, were standing in the path of an eastbound CSX freight train where the two were struck and killed.  The decedents were the subject of a missing persons report out of the City of Oneida.

Bradford Myatt contacted police after his father contacted him stating “that he was sorry for what he was about to do” before ending the call.

Mary Myatt was of diminished mental and physical capacity due to a brain aneurism for which she was recovering at the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility.

A suicide note was found in Myatt’s vehicle near the scene.

CSX Railroad personnel responded to assist with the investigation.

The investigation is continuing.
