(Morrisville, NY- May 2013) The Morrisville State College men’s soccer team convinced 13 friends to join them recently as they took the floor for the Morrisville State College Children’s Center Zumbathon.
Their efforts provided the center with $171 additional dollars toward their fund drive.
The Mustangs were able to bring 31 additional participants to the event, which brought not just a lot of feet and hands moving, but laughter, as well.
“It was a blast hanging out with the team, doing something new, while helping out the community,” said senior defender Brian Culkin.
“I was pleased with the level of commitment the guys showed in this community service project,” said head coach Kyle Graves. “Zumba is something new to the vast majority of them and also required that they step out of their comfort zones a bit. The fact that they raised money and awareness for the event, and also were active participants shows the selflessness of the boys.
“It was a bit unexpected, but I think that they genuinely enjoyed trying something new while knowing that their participation would directly benefit the Children’s Center.”
Morrisville State athletics is actively involved in service to the community. To date, several athletic teams have extended their efforts beyond the fields into the local and surrounding communities with various projects. Last year, the Mustangs logged more than 1,400 hours of community service, and are on pace to top that all-time high mark again this year.
