NEAC Announces Men’s Lacrosse All-Conference Selections; seven Mustangs take home honors

(Morrisville, NY – May 1, 2014) The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its 2014 men’s lacrosse All-Conference selectionsWednesday, naming seven from Morrisville State to its first, second and third teams, as selected by conference coaches.
A trio of upperclassmen earned first team accolades, including juniorBrendan Shannon (Stanhope, N.J.) at midfield, and senior Mike Kellogg (Pawling, N.Y.) and Dylan Lyons (Camillus, N.Y.) at defense.
Sophomore attackman Louie Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.),sophomore face-off specialist John Petriello (Carmel, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Tom Rosaschi (East Syracuse, N.Y.) each took home second team honors, with junior attackman Jeremy Beresovoy (Jamesville, N.Y.) earning third team recognition.
Shannon turned up his game for the Mustangs at the midfield position this season, and played a key role in Morrisville State’s 12-3 overall regular season record, and 6-1 record within the conference. He tallied 19 goals and 16 assists on the season for 35 points, while collecting 22 ground balls and four caused turnovers. Shannon ranks 16th overall in points (35) and 10th in assists (16), while ranking 21st in goals scored (19). He posted a single game high seven points on four goals and three assists to lead Morrisville to the comeback win over Hilbert, four off five faceoff wins, adding a game high five ground balls in the victory over Cazenovia. Shannon averages 2.33 points per game for the Mustangs.
Kellogg is one of the top defenders for the Mustang unit that allowed a mere 6.20 goals per game average, ranking 11th overall among all Division III in defensive scoring. In 15 games the senior collected 28 ground balls and caused 19 turnovers, ranking 36th among the conference leaderboard in ground balls and 8th in caused turnovers. Kellogg ranks 109th nationally in caused turnovers per game (1.67) and posted a game high four ground balls and six caused turnovers against conference leader Keuka earlier in the season. His caused turnover per game average contributes to the defensive unit that ranks 18th overall among all Division III in caused turnovers per game (12.13). Kellogg is a three-time first team all-conference selection at defense.
A junior long stick defender, Lyons was charged with marking key opponent offensive leaders and did a great job for the unit that held the opposition to just 6.20 goals per game on average. Across 15 games, Lyons collected 13 ground balls and caused 15 turnovers, ranking 14thoverall in the NEAC in caused turnovers. He posted a single game high three ground balls and three caused turnovers against Hilbert, matching his single game high three caused turnovers he registered earlier in the season against Keuka. Lyons, in four games this season, held the leading attacker in the opposition scoreless, including against nationally competitive programs Farmingdale and Geneseo. Lyons averaged 1.0 caused turnovers a game, contributing to the Mustangs 12.13 on average who ranked 18th overall among all of Division III.
Geswaldo led Morrisville State behind a team best 31 goal, 20 assist season for 51 team points; 31 of his total 51 points on the season came within conference play. In 15 games at attack for the Mustangs, the sophomore added 22 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers to his tallies, while posting five man up scores. Over the course of the season he posted a game high nine points against SUNY Cobleskill on a best two goal, seven assist single game performance; adding along the way a single game high five goals in the win over SUNYIT. In the last 4-of-5 games for the Mustangs, Geswaldo had 5+ points and posted a hat-trick for the Mustangs six times on the season. The sophomore was named the NEAC Offensive Player of the Week April 13 for a six goal, 10 assist performance across two conference games. He currently ranks 6th overall in NEAC standings in goals scored (31), 7th in points (51), 5th in assists (20) and 7th in man-up scores (5). Geswaldo ranks 141st among all of Division III in assists, 153rd in goals scored per game and is 127th in points per game. He averaged 2.06 goals and 3.40 points per game on the season. Geswaldo was the 2013 NEAC Rookie of the Year, and a second team All-Conference selection.
Petriello played a critical role for the Mustangs as a faceoff specialist. The sophomore dominated the center line, winning 130-of-240 attempts to rank 1st overall in the NEAC. Petriello also added 48 ground balls to his tallies on the season with a game high eight coming against Cazenovia where he went 14-for-20 from the center line. Petriello followed that performance with a 13 faceoff win effort in 20 attempts against SUNYIT. His win percentage ranks 117th among all of Division III (.527%).
Rosaschi was key to the Mustangs midfield transition to attack this season, posting 20 points and six assists for 26 points in 15 games. The junior collected 39 ground balls and caused seven turnovers, ranking 17th overall in NEAC standings in ground balls. Rosaschi noted a single game high four goals in the win over Alfred State, and added two additional hat-trick games in the win over Geneseo and loss to Keuka. He registered a single game high six ground balls against Cazenovia. Rosaschi ranks 19th overall in the NEAC in goals scored, 17th in man up tallies (3).
Beresovoy was second on the team in scoring this season, notching 33 goals and adding five assists for 38 team points across 15 games. Three of Beresovoy’s tallies were man up scores, while he added 28 ground balls and six caused turnovers to his stats throughout the season. Beresovoy notched a game high five goals in the win over SUNY Cobleskill, and had a team high six ground balls in the win over Canton. His 38 points ranks 13th overall within the NEAC and is also ranked 5th in goals scored. He ranks 168th nationally among all of Division III in goals per game (2.07). His efforts the week of March 30earned him NEAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, where he also earned ECAC Mid-Atlantic Offensive Player of the Week recognition. Six times this season Beresovoy has registered 3+ goals per game.
Morrisville State women sweep individual conference major awards; Wood, Edmondson and Waldau named Players of the Year
The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its 2014 NEAC Women’s Lacrosse individual award winners Wednesday afternoon, as chosen by the conference’s coaches, and for the first time in Morrisville State College history it was a Mustang sweep.
Junior midfielder Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) was named the 2014 NEAC Offensive Player of the Year, senior defender Cassie Edmondson (Oshawa, Ontario) the Defensive Player of the Year, and freshman attack Hunter Waldau (Central Square, N.Y.) the Rookie of the Year.
Wood had a tremendous season for the Mustangs from the midfield position, leading the conference in goals scored with 68, while adding 14 assists to rank second overall in total points with 82 through 17 regular season contests. Those tallies helped her along the way to become the Mustangs all-time leader in both goals scored and points in just her third collegiate season. The two-time NEAC Offensive Player of the Week selection was also second in the conference standings with 77 draw controls, third in caused turnovers with 39 and picked up 55 ground balls, ranking sixth in the conference.
Nine times this season Wood tallied five-plus points per game for the Mustangs, registering a single game high 10 points in the win over SUNYIT. Her efforts on the offensive end of the field have led to five top 56 national rankings among all of Division III for Morrisville State in team statistics, and five top 81 spots individually including 49th in caused turnovers, 56th in draw controls, 42nd in goals scored, 45th in goals per game, and 81st in points. Wood is a three-time all-conference first team selection, and was the 2012 NEAC Rookie of the Year.
Wood is a graduate of Holy Names Academy and is majoring in journalism and communication for online media at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Michelle and David Wood of Duanesburg.
A four-year starter at defense for the Mustangs, Edmondson wrapped up her senior season as the 2014 Defensive Player of the Year. Edmondson leads the NEAC with 58 caused turnovers on the year, while compiling the third-most ground balls with 78. Those numbers also place her sixth and 13th nationally in those two respective categories.
Her defensive efforts on the field throughout the year landed her two NEAC defensive player of the week accolades, in addition to an ECAC defensive player of the week honor. Edmondson registered a career best 10 ground balls and added four goals (including the game winner) in a come-from-behind victory over Alfred University earlier in the season, posting a single game high seven caused turnovers three times on the year. She also played a key role on the offensive end of the field, recording 31 points on 23 goals and eight assists in addition to 32 draw controls while appearing and starting in all 17 games.
Edmondson is the first Mustang to earn all-conference accolades all four-years, the past three as a first team selection.
A graduate of Eastdale Collegiate, Edmondson is majoring in human performance and health promotion at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Stacey and Chris Edmondson of Oshawa, Ontario.
Waldau was named the NEAC Rookie of the Year following a stellar inaugural freshman campaign for the Mustangs at attack. The freshman averaged 3.23 goals and 3.71 points per game in her first collegiate season, while currently ranking first among conference rookies and third overall in total goals (55). In addition, Waldau also ranks sixth in points scored on the season in the conference, with 61.
Waldau led all players in free position goals on the season with 11 scored on 16 opportunities, while adding 37 ground balls and 12 draw controls. Earlier in the season she earned NEAC offensive player of the week accolades for her performance on the field. Three times this season she posted a game high six goals and had six games where she registered five or more points. Waldau posted a game high seven points twice, once against Elmira and a second time against Potsdam.
She currently ranks 87th overall among all of Division III in goals scored and 119th in goals tallied per game, and was selected as a first team all-conference recipient this season.
The graduate of Paul V. Moore High is majoring in human performance and health promotion at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Heather and Fred Waldau of Central Square.
#2 Morrisville State advances to NEAC title game with 9-4 win over #3 Hilbert
(April 30, 2014) Second seeded Morrisville State College upended third seed Hilbert College 9-4 Wednesday evening in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) men’s lacrosse semifinal tournament action in Morrisville, advancing to the title game for a third time in program history.
Morrisville State (13-3) will face top seed Keuka College (13-0) in the final, to be played Saturday at 4 p.m. in Keuka. The winner of the NEAC Championship will earn the conference’s first automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
Sophomore netminder Tyler Catalfano (Rochester, N.Y.) came up huge in net for the Mustangs to secure the win with a collegiate best performance as he registered 15 saves on the day including seven in the second quarter.
Offensively, seven different Mustangs posted tallies on the day, with Andrew Donoghue (Rochester, N.Y.) leading the way with two goals and an assist. Eliud Evans (Culver City, Calif.) added two goals to the scoring efforts, while teammate’s Joseph Chazen (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Tom Rosaschi (East Syracuse, N.Y.) each posted one goal and assisted another.
Andrew MacKay led the Hilbert efforts with a three point evening, scoring twice and assisting another, while teammate Doug Takac added two assists in the losing effort.
Brenden Deady made 11 stops in the efforts between the pipes for the Hawks, turning away five in the final quarter.
Morrisville State was first to get on the board in the contest, as Rosaschi went down the center of the box to post the unassisted tally just 1:35 into the contest for the early 1-0 lead. The Mustangs took a 3-0 lead after the opening quarter with two additional scores, an unassisted goal by John Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) midway through the first, before Evans added another minutes later off a feed from Donoghue.
Hilbert was able to get on the board early in the second with a rebounded score by MacKay, but Morrisville State went on to net six straight, claiming a commanding 9-1 lead with minutes to go in the third quarter.
Hilbert posted the final three tallies of the day, all on extra man opportunities.
Morrisville State had the advantage in shots, 31-27, over the visitors, and won the ground ball battle 31-24.
The Mustangs dominated the face-off, winning 12-of-16 chances, with 11 wins coming from sophomore John Petriello (Carmel, N.Y.).
Wood named NEAC co-Offensive Player of the Week
The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its weekly award winners, and has named Morrisville State College junior midfielder Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) the women’s lacrosse co-offensive player of the week for the week ending April 26.
Wood led Morrisville State to a 3-0 week in conference play, posting 20 points on 16 goals and four assists, while adding 11 draw controls, seven ground balls and eight caused turnovers to her tallies.
Posting at least four goals in each contest, Wood tallied a week high of seven goals and three assists in the win over SUNYIT, adding five draw controls and four ground balls on Wednesday. She tallied five goals and an assist in the defeat of Lancaster Bible, and wrapped up the week with four goals and seven caused turnovers in the win over Wilson.
Her tallies across the week left her as the conference leader following the regular season in goals with 68. The wins helped clinch the second overall seed in the conference tournament with an 8-1 NEAC record.

Young becomes first Mustang to nab NEAC Golf All-Conference accolades
The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its 2013-14 all-conference men’s golf teams following the conclusion of the championship tournament, with freshman Darren Young (Woodstock, Ontario) becoming the first Morrisville State College Mustang to earn all-conference recognition.
The top 15 individual performers from the two-day event make up the first, second and third team, respectively.
Young shot a two-day total 164 strokes after registering rounds of 81 and 83 across the championship, on the par-72 Lakeside Country Club course in Penn Yan. His scores led Morrisville State to a fifth overall team finish in their inaugural season.
Young is a two-sport student-athlete for Morrisville State, also competing in ice hockey at forward. He led the Mustangs throughout the golf season as the top competitor.
The freshman is majoring in business administration at Morrisville State and is the son of Eustacia and Dave Young of Woodstock, Ontario.
