(Bouckville, NY – May 2014) The Oriskany Falls Public Library on Main Street, Oriskany Falls, presents The Chenango Canal: Past & Present, a PowerPoint presentation by Harvey Kliman and Diane Van Slyke at the library at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, May 15. Kliman and Van Slyke will talk about the history of the Chenango Canal, the significance of the feeder system and how it affected growth in the Chenango Valley in the late 1800s.

The talk will continue about the Chenango Canal Association, how it developed and what it is doing today to promote and protect the 178-year old towpath trail along the five-mile summit in Bouckville. The CCA partners, with some projects with Southern Madison Heritage Trust in Hamilton, will explain current plans to expand.

The towpath trail is open to the public all year round. The trail head on Route 20 is located at the Chenango Canal Museum, which is open from April to October and displays historic and vintage photos that tell the story of how the Chenango Canal helped develop the local area.
