(Oneida, NY – June 2014) Would you like to become a volunteer tutor in your town? Share your time, knowledge and caring with someone pursuing their high school equivalency diploma (formerly known as the GED), looking to improve their basic education skills or work with English for speakers of other languages.
Madison County Reads Ahead is offering a 2-evening training session on June 24 and 25 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Oneida Public Library. All materials are provided, as is on-going support from each local Program Coordinator once you become a tutor. Each library has appropriate resources on site to assist you in your one-to-one tutoring sessions. This training is for tutors from all regions of Madison County. Once trained, you will tutor in the library of your choice within the county.
While the training is held in the evening, actual tutoring times are flexible and can take place in the morning, afternoon or evening. A commitment of 3 to 4 hours a week is necessary to become a volunteer tutor. The local Program Coordinator matches the volunteer tutor with the learner so that schedules and learning styles are compatible.
If you wish to sign up or have any questions, please contact Tara Truett, Program Director of Madison County Reads Ahead at ttruett@midyork.org or call 345-1468.
