To the Editor:
(Utica, NY – Aug. 2014) Thank you to everyone who participated in the 11th Annual David M. Philipson Memorial Sporting Clays Tournament on Saturday, July 19. The event generated nearly $10,000 to support the Boy Scouts Shooting Program, which facilitates the proper education and respectful use of rifles, shotguns and archery equipment in age-appropriate manners.
Annually, the tournament is held to help the Scouts expand the shooting sports program through matching grants from the Youth Shooting Sports Foundation, the National Shooting Sports Alliance and the National Rifle Association. This year, Boy Scouts participated in a clinic on shotgun safety the night before the event.
The Council would like to thank everyone who participated and helped to make our annual tournament a success once again this year. In particular, we would like to thank the Boy Scouts and their Leaders who volunteered their time to Saturday’s event, the tournament committee, chaired by John Devlin, and the sponsors: “Herb” Philipson’s, Morgan Stanley, Carbone Auto Group, Fiber Instrument Sales, New York Sash, CampMasters Popcorn, Rome Strip Steel, KutMaster, Daylight Donuts and Clinton Fish & Game Club, who hosted the event.
