(Verona, NY – Aug. 2014) More than 90 students build cars in the Super Go session of Camp Invention, a national science camp held for the first time at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School.

The camp, open to VVS students in fourth through sixth grade, engages students in a week of hands-on science projects and creative learning modules with the assistance of district teachers and high school students. Projects included creating an insect-themed pinball machine using dismantled electronic units; developing bionic gadgets and studying the senses; designing and building a morphing vehicle that operates on land, the air, and underwater; learning about motion and energy in the physical education setting; and honing creative thinking and entrepreneurial skills.

Camp Invention is the only nationally recognized, non-profit elementary enrichment program backed by The National Inventors Hall of Fame and has been in partnership with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for more than 40 years. The VVS camp was directed by Wettel Elementary School teacher Lee Meyers, with assistance from high school Earth science teacher John Kio.
