New York State Fair

(Syracuse, NY – Aug. 2014) New York State Fair visitors can help the Central New York Region of the American Red Cross and find a convenient parking spot by parking their cars in the Red Cross lot on State Fair Boulevard, directly across from the Crucible Industries plant and just a short walk from the Fair’s main entrance.

The donation to park your car is $10, and the lot will be open from 7:30 a.m. until closing from opening day on Thursday, Aug. 21, to the Fair’s final day on Monday, Sept. 1. Red Cross volunteers, staff members and board members operate and supervise the lot at all times.

In addition to parking, the Red Cross will sell bottled water for $1, and ponchos and sunscreen for $2. All proceeds support Red Cross services throughout the Central New York Region, which covers 16 counties from St. Lawrence to Broome.

In the fiscal year that ended June 30, the Central New York Region provided more than $375,000 to 1,839 people from 662 families who were affected by a house fire or another disaster; provided 1,250 presentations or emergency communications and nearly $33,000 in financial assistance to members of the Armed Forces and their families; and trained more than 100,000 individuals in CPR, First Aid and other health-and-safety and disaster preparedness courses.

The American Red Cross relies on donations and events such as the parking lot to raise the money needed to help residents who have been affected by disasters.

“Thanks to our partners at Crucible, we are once again hosting our parking lot for State Fair visitors who want a great parking spot and help the Red Cross achieve its mission,” said Rosie Taravella, Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Central New York Region. “It’s a short walk to the main gate and a small donation that goes a long way for the Red Cross.”
