Mad Co Sheriff's Dept

(Madison, NY – Oct. 6, 2014) Madison County Deputies were dispatched to a report of a possible overdose on Saturday evening, Oct. 4 in the Madison County town of

Madison.

The Deputy was the first responding unit to the address, ahead of emergency medical services. The Deputy located the unresponsive victim and observed signs of what appeared to be consistent with an overdose, based on formal training received by all Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies earlier this year.

The Deputy positioned the victim to ensure that his airway was open and unobstructed, and administered two vials of Narcan (Naloxone) intra-nasal. At that time, the victim’s care was turned over to responding emergency medical professionals.

The victim was transported to Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton where he received treatment by physicians and hospital staff. The victim is expected to make a full recovery.

Madison County Sheriff Allen Riley commends and credits the Deputy for his life-saving actions

Saturday evening. The Sheriff’s Office was able to acquire Narcan (Naloxone) and provide formalized training to two instructors as well as all Sheriff’s Deputy’s and Correctional Facility supervisors through funds received by the New York Office of the Attorney General’s Community Overdose Prevention program in July.
