Oneida police patch(Oneida, NY – Oct. 18, 2014) Oneida City Police and Fire responded to a motor vehicle accident on Oct. 17 at about 3:26 p.m. on Lenox Avenue at Stone Street.

John P Konowich 57, of N. Court Street, Canastota was operating a motorcycle east bound on Lenox Avenue. Catherine E Lumbrazo, 38, Creek Road, Oneida operating a Toyota Suburban was stopped at a stop sign on Stone Street at the intersection with Lenox Avenue waiting to make a left turn.

A third vehicle, a work van-type vehicle was eastbound in the southern most east bound lane on Lenox Avenue making a right turn onto Stone Street. Lumbrazo failed to see the oncoming motorcycle and started out onto Lenox Avenue to make a left turn, failing to yield the right of way to Konowich.

The motorcyclist struck the driver side front of the Lumbrazo vehicle and was ejected from the motorcycle.

Konowich was transported by Vineall Ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital where he later passed from his injuries. Lumbrazo was charged with Failing to Yield the Right of Way at a Stop Sign While Making a Left Turn.

Lumbrazo was treated at the scene for cuts from broken glass.

Investigation into the accident is continuing.
