(New Woodstock, NY – Oct. 2014) An exhibit of masks and artwork by Steve Meltzer titled “Take it apart and make it art” will be at the New Woodstock Free Library through Oct. 31. A reception for the artist will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 11. The reception is free and open to the public. The exhibit is open during all regular library hours.

Meltzer, former art director at WCNY, is a graduate of the Syracuse University School of Art. He has taught at Syracuse University, RIT, the Kodak Marketing Center in Rochester, the Newhouse School of Communication and Onondaga Community College. His work has appeared in area shows and competitions including the Everson Museum Regional, the Central New York Art Open, the WCNY Art Open, WCNY Invitational 24 Collection, the Kirkland Art Center’s Central New York Regional, the New York State Fair and the Syracuse and Albany Printmaker’s annual shows.

Meltzer has won numerous awards, including 31 national and 10 local and regional awards for illustration, print, broadcast and set design. His honors also include international awards, among them the Broadcast Designer Association International Competition and the Broadcast Promotion and Marketing Association Awards.

Meltzer’s fine arts works include linoleum prints, acrylics and oils, woodworking and 3-D masks; his exhibit can be seen during the Third Annual Cazenovia Art Trail event, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11.

Children’s story hour is held every Tuesday at 11 a.m. Family movie night is held the third Friday of every month. The movies begin at 7 p.m.

This year marks the library’s 75th anniversary of service to the greater New Woodstock area.

The library is open Monday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m., Monday and Wednesday evenings 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The library also is open whenever the flags are flying out front.
