(Syracuse, NY – Nov. 2014) Kenneth J. Turner, Regional Disaster Program Officer for the American Red Cross Western and Central New York Region, is pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel J. Harmony as his Volunteer Partner. Harmony, who will be based in Syracuse, will work with Turner to support the volunteer Disaster Workforce across the 26-county Region.
“I’m thrilled to be able to have someone with Dan’s experience and expertise in this volunteer leadership position,” said Turner. “Dan’s knowledge of the Central New York area and the staff and volunteers there will be invaluable as we work together to deliver the Red Cross services our communities count on.”
Harmony, who has been Volunteer Partner in the Central New York Region since 2012, has worked with the Red Cross in both paid and volunteer positions since 2004, when he started as Assistant Director of Chapter Services in Syracuse. More recently, Harmony served as Interim Community Chapter Executive in Watertown and has been a member of the New York State Disaster Coordinating Committee.
Harmony, of Cicero, also served as part of the Red Cross response to the Alabama Tornadoes in May 2011; the Southern Tier floods after Hurricane Irene/Tropical Storm Lee in 2011; Superstorm Sandy in 2012; and the Mohawk Valley floods in 2013. Prior to joining the Red Cross, Harmony was an Assistant Principal and Assistant Superintendent of Schools for Business in the Oswego City School District.
“I’m honored that Ken has selected me to take such an important role in this organization,” Harmony said. “I’m looking forward to working with Ken and his team to support my fellow volunteers and ensure that the Red Cross will continue to be there to help our neighbors in need.”
