(Utica, NY – Dec. 2014) The 10th Annual New York Sash Teddy Bear Toss is coming
up on Friday, Dec. 5 as Utica College men’s hockey team takes on
Trinity College at the Utica Memorial Aud. The event is a partnership
between New York Sash and Utica College to raise toys for local
children in need during the holiday season.
Fans are encouraged to bring new stuffed animals to the game. As Utica
College scores their first goal, the crowd is asked to throw their
teddy bears onto the ice. Thousands of bears will rain down to be
collected by New York Sash and donated to area toy drives. Last year
3,296 stuffed animals were collected on game night.
The Teddy Bear Toss game is a highlight of the Utica College Pioneers
season and is expected to sell out for the fourth consecutive year.
“It’s definitely a game that all the players circle on the calendar as
well as the fans,” said Utica College hockey senior defenseman Mike
Baird.
Head Coach Gary Heenan recommends buying your Teddy Bear Toss game
ticket well in advance. “It’s our number one sell-out game. It’s the
ticket that sells quickest,” said Heenan. The game starts at 7 p.m. but
guests are urged to arrive early. In the past the toss has happened
within the first two minutes of the game and some late fans missed out
on the chance to participate.
“I am proud to have been able to partner with Utica College for this
cornerstone community event for 10 years now,” said Scot Hayes, owner
of New York Sash. Hayes and his wife Jill were awarded honorary alumni
status by Utica College on October 19th in appreciation of their
decade of ongoing support and generous donations to the Pioneers.
