Vosburg for web(Richmond, Va. – Dec. 2014)  On Nov. 24 a Madison County resident reported to his newly-assigned duty post to begin his career as a Virginia State Police trooper.

Brett M. Vosburg is among the 50 troopers who graduated Nov. 21 from the Virginia State Police Academy in Richmond, Va. The graduates’ final phase of training requires each new trooper to spend a minimum of six weeks with a field training officer (FTO) learning his or her new patrol area and day-to-day duties. Vosburg begins this final phase on patrol in Northern Virginia’s Prince William County.

To achieve their diplomas, members of the 122nd Basic Session had to complete a rigorous 26-week training session. The new troopers received instruction in more than 100 different subjects spanning hundreds of hours. Academy training includes such areas as traffic crash investigation, crime scene investigation, survival Spanish, judicial procedures, self defense, cultural diversity and firearms.

Seeking out a career with the Virginia State Police has been a lifelong ambition for Vosburg, 22, of DeRuyter who says, “I always wanted to be a state trooper.”
