business(Utica, NY – Dec. 2014) Mayor Robert Palmieri recently announced that Hayner Hoyt, a light commercial construction company based out of Syracuse, has purchased the former ConMed Building at 310 Broad St. pending a public hearing and approval from the Utica Common Council.

Hayner Hoyt’s proposal received unanimous approval from the Urban Renewal Agency, marking the 8thmajor commercial property the City has sold to private developers over the past three years.

Hayner Hoyt’s Chairman Gary Thurston is a native of Utica and graduate of Utica College.  Hayner Hoyt plans include a $4.5 million investment to revitalize the building for mixed use, including 27 high-end loft-style apartments on the upper three floors, office space on the ground floor and light manufacturing.  The project is expected to be completed within six to seven months after the start of construction.

“I commend the Urban Renewal Agency for another job well done,” Mayor Palmieri said.  “With each vacant commercial building we sell to reputable companies and developers we are changing the demographics of our city and neighborhoods.  I welcome Hayner Hoyt to Utica and thank them for investing in Utica.”
