Peterboro(Madison, NY – May 2015) The Town of Madison Historical Society invites you to the first speaker program in 2015 on Monday May 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Historical Society at 3606 South St., Madison.

Come early to be part of what the society accomplishes at its 6:30 p.m. meeting. New members are welcome.

Dot Willsey, co-chair of the Gerrit Smith Estate National Historic Landmark and President of the Cabinet of Freedom for the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum in Peterboro, will explain the Underground Railroad and abolition history that led to the state and national designations of the sites. Willsey will include descriptions of developments and programs that interpret the sites.

The 2015 theme for Peterboro, NY Heritage projects, I FOUND PETERBORO! is based on the tiny Hamlet of Peterboro, which is packed with history. But finding the location can be a challenge. Volunteers are currently working to help visitors find Peterboro, such as for the annual Civil War Weekend on June 13 and 14.

Refreshments will be served after the program while you get a chance to talk with the speaker. The program is free but donations are welcome.

Please call Diane at 315-893-7910 for directions or questions.
