(Cazenovia, NY – Oct. 2015) All are invited to join author Monica Meira Vaughan when she returns to the Cazenovia Public Library on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. During her presentation “Being a Writer,” she will share her experiences as a writer and offer some advice to possible future writers.
After the age of 15, Vaughan spent every summer in Cazenovia with her father and stepmother Frederico and Kathy Meira. Here she spent time at the lake and bought books at the Friends of the Library Book Sale. Where she writes is part of her writing process, and her time in Cazenovia was one of those places.
From her 2013 presentation at the Cazenovia Public Library, readers will remember Vaughan and her first book The Ability, in which she delves into the extraordinary abilities of the twelve-year-old mind. One such twelve-year-old is Christopher Lane, who has been discounted by his teachers as a liar and thief, and whose mom doesn’t have the energy to deal with him.
Publishers Weekly described her second book Mindscape as a “fast-paced, superhero-tinged spy novel.” In this mind-bending sequel to The Ability, telekinetic preteens use their powers for good—and evil. Here Christopher Lane is haunted by the face of the boy he killed. There is no escape from the guilt, not even on his return to Myers Holt—the secret London academy where he and five others are being trained to use their mental powers, their Ability.
In Vaughan’s most recent novel Six, described by Kirkus as “inventive, entertaining and thought-provoking,” readers find Parker Banks, his sister, and his dad now living in New York. Parker misses London and his friends, but must take charge once more when his father, on the brink of a technological breakthrough, is kidnapped. In this adventure, packed with action and mystery, Parker’s search reveals that the company his dad works for is up to something big—a perfectly sinister project that threatens far more than Parker’s family. A project called SIX.
