On Thursday, February 25, 2016 at approximately 1:34 a.m. State Police responded to 23 Main Street Apartment #3 in Philadelphia, NY for a reported six-week-old child not breathing and bleeding from the nose.
When Troopers arrived, EMT personnel began CPR and transported the baby to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, NY where medical personnel determined the victim was in cardiac arrest and suffered some type of trauma to the head.
Investigators interviewed the live-in boyfriend who was watching the baby while the mother was at work.
Investigators subsequently arrested Jeremiah A. Garnett, age 23 from 23 Main Street Apt. # 3 in Philadelphia, NY for Assault 1st degree, a class “B” felony and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a class “A” misdemeanor. The six-week-old victim was transferred to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse where he is listed in critical condition with a severe brain injury.
The investigation is continuing tonight.
