With all of the negative advertisements, radio interviews, and accusations surrounding the upcoming 22nd District primary, I believe it is necessary to recognize one candidate for having the strength of character to remain above the political fray.

George Phillips is the only candidate in this race that I feel can properly represent our district’s interests in Washington. I do not come to this decision lightly, and after months of researching the various candidates, I am going to vote for Phillips. Below is why I think that everyone reading this should strongly consider Phillips, too.

As a voter in Upstate New York, I am deeply troubled by the latest recession. People have lost their jobs at an alarming rate and the heroin epidemic has only gotten worse. I believe that Phillips can bring our communities out of the shadows of stagnant wages and mass youth exodus. Phillips has a comprehensive Upstate Jobs Plan that will restore our economic clout in this great nation.

While the drug problems in our area make front page news every day, it seems as if our state legislators and Washington representatives have largely ignored our cries for assistance.

Phillips wants to secure the border once and for all and make U.S. relations with Mexico contingent upon the Mexican government’s cooperation in destroying facilities that process drugs like heroin. We can no longer sit idly by as our youngest succumb to addiction. It is time we unite behind a candidate that can make a real difference.

While I understand that we each have our own decision to make when it comes to the important choice of representation, I believe that a local history teacher that knows the Constitution better than anyone else is our best hope for the future of Upstate New York. We don’t need any more lawyers with empty promises in Congress.

  1. The Phillips Upstate Jobs Plan is not a new idea. It is essentially the “tax-free zones” of Governor Cuomo – which have done nothing to stem the exodus of people and business from NY. It’s essentially the 2015 Economic Freedom Zones of Sen. Rand Paul – which died in session with a popular Presidential candidate at the helm.

Failed policies and old ideas are not what NY and the nation need. It sounds great, but borrowing from the past does not forge a path to the future. Mr. Phillips is a decent man, but not the best candidate.

    That’s my opinion.
