UPDATED INFORMATION:
On Friday, March 31, 2017, autopsies were conducted at the Albany Medical Center. All evidence suggests 13 year-old, Parker J. Huckabone was killed as he slept and James A. Huckabone’s death is a result of murder-suicide. State Fire Investigators have completed their on-scene investigation and have determined that the fire was intentionally set.
The investigation is continuing.
On March 30, 2017, at 7:41 am, Herkimer County 911 received a call regarding a residential fire at 4930 Military Road in the Town of Russia. Poland Fire Company was first on scene and discovered two bodies, identified as James A. Huckabone, age 40, and his 13 year-old son, Parker J. Huckabone located within the residence.
State Police BCI along with New York State Fire Investigators are still investigating the cause and origin of the fire. Both victims were transported to Albany Medical Center pending an autopsy.
State Police were assisted at the scene by members from the Poland Fire Department, Newport Fire Department, and Barneveld Fire Department. The investigation is continuing.
