Jefferson County man killed in agricultural accident
On April 4, 2018, at approximately 8:34 p.m., State Police responded to 14014 Case Road in Lyme for a reported agricultural accident.
Investigation revealed 68-year-old Reginald J. Schweitzer was applying grease lubricant to the bottom points under the raised bed of a personally owned dump truck, which was propped up by a wooden post.
For an unknown reason, the post broke causing the bed to drop onto Schweitzer; he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Jefferson County man dies when sugar shack collapses due to high winds
On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at 1:04 p.m., State Police in Watertown responded to an outbuilding located at 41045 Cross Road in Theresa, Jefferson County.
Investigation revealed Jonas L. Swartzentruber, 36, was engaged in maple syrup production in a sugar shack outbuilding with two other family members when high winds collapsed the building, pinning him against the ground with debris on top.
A 15-year-old male was able to escape before the collapse and alerted neighbors who used jacks to lift the building debris off Swartzentruber and extricate him. Swartzentruber was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation is continuing.
