Cold Case Tuesday: The New York State Police continue to investigate a 45-year-old homicide in Onondaga County
The New State Police Troop D Major Crimes Unit in Oneida continues to investigate the Nov. 8, 1972, homicide of Rudy Allen Rothberg.
Rothberg, 52, of Evans Mills, Jefferson County, was employed as a truck driver for Whitaker Trucking Company in Deposit. He was northbound on I-81 in a tractor-trailer when he stopped at about 1:45 a.m. at a rest area about one mile south of US-20, Lafayette.
Rothberg was sleeping in the cab of the truck in the driver’s seat when he was shot in the head with a shotgun. Another truck driver found the body still located in the cab of the truck and reported this murder at 3:05 a.m.
The investigation revealed that Rothberg’s wallet containing a small amount of cash and 
some credit cards had been stolen.
