Vintage Race Boat Will Be Featured
(Skaneateles, NY – Aug. 2014) Miss America IX, the first boat in the world to exceed 100 mph, will be among the 150 boats on display at the Antique and Classic Boat Society (ACBS) Annual Meeting and International Boat Show.
The Society’s 39th annual show, held at the Skaneateles Country Club, 3344 W. Lake Road (Route 41A), is open to the public Sept. 19 and 20.
The international show will be double the size of the successful FLC (Finger Lakes Chapter) show, held each year in Skaneateles the last full weekend in July. The Finger Lakes Chapter is host to this year’s international show.
“Expect to see the nicest vintage boats from across North America, displayed on water and land,” says event co-chair Janice Miller. All classes of antique and classic boats will be represented.
Miss America IX, a 1930 Gar Wood Hydro-Plane owned by Charles “Chuck” and Diane Mistele, of Bluffton, S.C., is a legend in the boating world.
“[It] takes your breath away in every respect,” wrote Jonathan Stein in Hagerty Classic Cars.
Food will be available, and vendors will be set up on the grounds. Tours aboard the Judge Ben Wiles will be offered.

Boats will be judged on the ACBS’ 100-point format, which factors in authenticity of restoration, quality of craftsmanship and extent of originality retained in the boat.
Trophies will be presented prior to the exhibitors’ banquet Saturday evening, where winners of special non-judged awards and the People’s Choice Award will be named. A silent and live auction, with proceeds benefiting the ACBS scholarship fund, will be held at the exhibitors’ Friday evening dinner.

The Antique and Classic Boat Society, founded in 1974 to protect and preserve the heritage of wooden boats, is headquartered in Clayton. It has nearly 14,000 members and 56 chapters throughout the United States, Canada and France.
The show runs 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and is handicapped-accessible. Free parking will be available on the country club grounds off Route 41A, with a shuttle to the show. Admission is $5 for adults, free for children.
