book pic 001(Town of Eaton, NY – May 2015) The public is invited to the special 220th Anniversary Eaton Day to be celebrated as usual on Memorial Day Monday, which is May 25 this year.  It will take place on Route 26 in the hamlet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Though the parade will be in West Eaton you can follow the road down to Eaton for History Day.  The 3rd Annual Pie Sale, gift sale and more will be in front of the old Auction Barn on Route 26.

The day begins at 9 a.m. with pies of all varieties; baked goods and raffle baskets as well as books and videos on history. Pies include mincemeat, apple, cherry, elderberry, peach, strawberry rhubarb and more. Also available will be hot dogs and soda at old-fashioned prices.

At 12:30 p.m. on “front street” (Route 26) Back Street Mary will be delivering a lecture on the history of Eaton and the new history information that has come out in the past 20 years. Other lectures will follow. Videos on the history of Eaton will also be playing all day long.

This year weather permitting Back Street Mary will also be giving a tour of the Historic Eaton Cemetery at 2 p.m. where the historic Eaton Cemetery Book and tee shirts will be on sale to benefit the Eaton Village Cemetery Association.

Playing during the day will be a look back at the Bicentennial Celebration of 20 years ago; a video showing clips of that famous first Eaton Bicentennial Day.  The nostalgic video offers memories of the many neighbors of historic Eaton and friends that have been lost over the past 20 years.

With that idea a special book will be published for the occasion with more than 50 pages of history, with new pictures and information that even some historians are unaware of.  This220th Anniversary Book will be in the same size and style as the original one that was published 20 years ago. Since then the museum has added many more history books on subjects pertaining to Eaton. The new book covers not only Eaton but also the entire town of Eaton with stories and pictures that are new to the museum and that represent the years after 1850.

The museum will be closed for the day to enable the event to take place where there is ample parking at the post office.
