Girl Scouts New Use this(New Hartford, NY – June 2015) Two local Girl Scouts were recently recognized for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award during a Young Women of Distinction ceremony at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva on Saturday.

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest achievement girls can earn in Girl Scouting. This award challenges girls to change the world – or at least their corner of it – and be eligible for college scholarships. In order to earn the award girls participate in activities of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, and spend 80 hours working on a community service project that has a sustainable impact on their communities. The following girls are part of the Gold Award Class of 2015, compromised of 36 girls in the 26-county jurisdiction served by the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways. Local girls recognized for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award were:

Krystyna Hurd of Camden and Danielle LaGrange of Little Falls.

Krystyna HurdKrystyna is a graduate of Camden Central High School. For her Gold Award take action project she created a space for the children at her church to learn about the Bible and God’s teachings. It is used by both younger children and the teen group.

Danielle is a graduate of Dolgeville Central School. Danielle saw a need in her community due to the aging population of its members so she decided to instill a “Vials for Life” campaign. The vials were placed in welcome baskets as well as through door to door outreach. The vials provide a place for people to put all of their medical information so if an emergency were to occur, EMTs or other rescue service people would be able to better assist the victim.Danielle LaGrange
