Connecting With Kids

(Madison, Herkimer, NY – Jan. 2013) Connecting with Kids of Cornell Cooperative Extension Herkimer, Madison and Oneida Counties presents “Risk and Thriving in Adolescence: Understanding and Supporting Youth Decision-Making” on Tuesday Feb. 12. This workshop will be offered twice.  The first session will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m. at Herkimer County Community College in the Robert McLaughlin College Center.  This program is free to participants.

Join us for an informative session on why adolescents take risks presented by Nigel Gannon, the Healthy Living Specialist for the New York State 4-H Youth Development Program.  Nigel has twenty years’ experience in education and youth development as an educator, advisor and researcher.  He earned his doctorate in Sociology from the University of Chicago with a focus in adolescent mental health.

This interactive presentation will highlight what we know about adolescent risk-taking and, more importantly, how we can work to support those youth either approaching or passing through this stage of development.

To register or for more information, call Cornell Cooperative Extension of Herkimer County at (315) 866-7920.  Registration deadline is Feb. 7.  Registration may also be made at herkimer@cornell.edu. Please provide who will be attending, which session, and a daytime phone number.
