(Syracuse, NY – Jan. 24, 2013)  Friends of the Zoo announced that the organization made its fifth and final payment to Onondaga County in the amount of $221,588 to fulfill its $1 million commitment to the Parks for Tomorrow II initiative.

Through its capital campaign, Conserving What We Love: The Campaign for Elephants and Primates, Friends of the Zoo raised $1,730,771 to support construction of Asian Elephant Preserve, Primate Park and Gatherings, as well as several important educational components and exhibit enhancements that were not included in the original budget for the projects and renovations.

“This was the community’s campaign,” said Janet Agostini, president of Friends of the Zoo. “More than 350 individuals, foundations, corporations and small businesses contributed, helping us complete projects that are an important foundation for the continued growth of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo.”
