(Herkimer, NY – Feb. 6, 2013) State Police in Herkimer arrested Michael Leach, age 59, from Rochester on a sealed indictment handed down today by a Herkimer County Grand Jury.

Leach was arraigned on second-degree Murder and second-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon charges this morning in Herkimer County Court.  He was remanded to the Herkimer County Jail on $200,000 cash bail/bond.

Leach is scheduled to be back in court on April 5, 2013.leach

(Old Forge, NY – July 21, 2012) – On July 21, 2012 at 12:51 a.m., The Town of Webb Police Department responded to the Clark Beach Motel for a 911 call from a subject who stated he shot what he had believed to be an intruder.

The investigation revealed he had mistakenly shot his own son who had returned to the motel room. The deceased subject is Matthew S. Leach, age 37 of 53 South Heppler St. Rochester.

The victim’s father, Michael Leach, age 59, of Rochester is employed as a police officer in Perry, NY (Wyoming County). His department issued .45 caliber Glock handgun was used in the incident.

The investigation is continuing in conjunction with Acting Herkimer County District Attorney Jeff Carpenter. Michael Leach has been taken by ambulance to St. Lukes Hospital in Utica where he remains for a medical issue.  The investigation is continuing.
