(Vernon, NY – March 16, 2013) Oneida based state police investigated a 2 car personal injury motor vehicle accident at the intersection of State Route 26 and Cooper Street in the Town of Vernon at 7:40 a.m. Friday morning.

Tina M. Sykes, 38, of McLaughlin Road, Oriskany Falls was operating a 2001 Oldsmobile Bravada northbound on Route 26 approaching the intersection of Cooper Street when a 2008 Ford pickup truck towing a flatbed trailer travelling eastbound on Cooper Street failed to stop at the stop sign at the Route 26 intersection.  The pickup truck, operated by Evan C. Maher, 23, of Bovee Road, Bergen passed the stop sign and struck the Oldsmobile in the driver’s side, forcing it off the northeast side of the intersection.  Maher stated that he was unable to see the stop sign due to glare from the sun.

Maher was uninjured in the crash.  Sykes was treated at the scene by Vernon Fire Department EMS for a shoulder injury and transported to Rome Hospital by Vineall Ambulance.

Maher was ticketed for Failure to Stop for a Stop Sign returnable in the Town of Vernon Court on March 20.state-police-seal-150x150
