(Rome, NY – March 2013) Girls and adults of all ages are invited to join the Party in the Park, a community-wide take action project in celebration of Earth Day. Those attending will be cleaning up the parks and the Mohawk River Trail in Rome between 1 and 4 p.m. on April 21. Pre-registration is required.

Participants will meet at Franklin Field, 1147 North James Street in Rome and be assigned one of the parks or trails to work in and then return to the Franklin Field for a pizza party in celebration of the work done.

There is no cost to attend. The registration deadline is April 12. For more information contact Karen Lubecki at (315) 733-2391, ext. 2117 or klubecki@gsnypenn.org.

The Party in the Park is being held thanks to a grant from the Alcoa Foundation. The grant helped to develop a Girl Leadership Team in our council which took on the role of developing and implementing a global environmental take action project. Under this grant 20 Girl Scout councils and 13 World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scout troops were twinned together.

Our Girl Leadership Team is partnered with a group from Italy. They are working via skype and social media to develop the project. The focus of the project is water pollution and aquatic invasive species.
