(Little Falls, NY – March 28, 2013) More than 75 area farm families from eight counties attended the “Legal Aspects of Farm and Estate Transfer Workshop” organized by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Herkimer County and made possible by a grant from Herkimer County Mental Health Services through the Farm Family Assistance Program.
Speakers included Lorraine Lewandrowski, Esq. Agricultural and Food Law Attorney, Patrick Lamb, consultant with NY FarmNet, Gerda Mortelette, Community Health Advocate with the Mohawk Valley Perinatal Network, and Jeffrey Rheinhardt and Chris Bray, Radley and Rheinhardt, P.C. Topics included wills of different kinds, laws concerning trusts, Medicaid issues, powers of trustees, power of attorney, living wills, and estate taxes.
Response by participants was positive with comments to “what was the most important thing learned” including “use of trusts and wills;” ”importance of estate planning;” elder law information” and “the importance of having a plan and implementing it.”
