(Herkimer, NY – March 2013) On Monday, April 1 the Oneida-Herkimer Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility will open for its 21st season.

The facility located on Leland Avenue in Utica, is open for residents of Oneida-Herkimer Counties, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. from April 1 through Sept. 30. No appointments are necessary for households.

The facility was designed to accept waste products from home that can cause problems for humans and our environment when discarded improperly. Examples of wastes accepted include oil-based and latex paints, pesticides, oven cleaners and photographic chemicals. Once received, items are sorted by hazard class and properly disposed or recycled. Electronics/televisions/computer equipment, propane cylinders (under 100 lbs.), fluorescent light bulbs and many other common household items are accepted year-round.

Certain businesses may also qualify to use the facility. To obtain approval, please call Superintendent of Waste Collection William Schrader 733-1224 Ext. 1100.
