Volunteers Vital to SCC Program Success

(Chittenango, NY – March 2013) March 22 and 23, the Town of Sullivan Parks and Recreation completed the Senior Boys’ Basketball season with a double-elimination tournament. The league had four teams participating this year, and there was some close competition this season.
The Black Knights ended up winning the league with a 5-1 record and entering the tournament as the No. 1 seed. The Blue Razors joined the tournament as the No. 2 seed with a record of 3-3. The Red Storm and The Orange both came into the tournament with a 2-4 record. Red Storm came in as the No. 3 seed and The Orange as the No 4.
This was any team’s tournament this year. All the teams brought their A-game Friday and Saturday. This was the season for “Bracket Busters.” The Red Storm ended up defeating the Blue Razors in their first game with a 44-41 victory. The Red Storm came back from a six-point deficit and came out on top.
With the Red Storm winning that game, they had to play a back-to-back game against No. 1 seed The Black Knights, who beat The Orange in the first game of the night with a 49-36 win.
With the Red Storm still warmed up from their previous game, they entered their second game of the night and showed their determination to win. They defeated the Black Knights with 42-24 win. That was a huge win for the Red Storm!
With the Black Knights, the Blue Razors and The Orange all dropping down to the loser’s brackets, each team was eager to fight their way out. The Orange and the Blue Razors were the first to square off Saturday morning; the Orange ended up advancing with a 55-48 victory over the Blue Razors.
The Black Knights were waiting for the Orange in the next game. With the Orange still hot from their first game, they ended up defeating the Black Knights with a final score of 48-44.
With The Orange fighting their way out of the losers’ brackets, it showed the team’s resilience. The next game was between the Red Storm and the Orange. With the Orange already playing two back-to-back games, they were determined to win.
The Red Storm, playing their first game of the day, was well-rested and ready to run. The Red Storm came out strong and showed true will power. The game was close at the beginning, but with the Orange fighting their way out of the loser’s bracket all morning, they were beginning to show signs of fatigue.
The Red Storm ended up taking the championship with a score of 44-25. Barb and Brian Buyea coached the Red Storm. It was a great season!
I would like to thank all the coaches who volunteered their time this year. Our teams played with great sportsmanship and spirit, due to your influence. Without your help and dedication, the leagues and programs would not be as successful as they are today.
