(Oswego County – April 8, 2013) On April 8 as her family and friends looked on, the Badge of Honor Association and the New York State Police dedicated a sign in Oswego County in honor of fallen trooper, Amanda Anna.

On May 25, 2012, at approximately 11:26 p.m., Trooper Anna was operating a marked State Police 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe eastbound on County Route 37 in the town of Hastings when she lost control of the patrol vehicle on a curve, striking a guide rail and becoming airborne over a small inlet of water causing the car to overturn several times.

Trooper Anna was transported by ambulance to Upstate University Medical Center in Syracuse for severe head trauma.  On May 26, 2012 at 5:25 a.m. Trooper Anna succumbed to her injuries.

Trooper Anna was a six year veteran of the New York State Police, and was assigned to the Hastings Barracks in Oswego County. She is survived by her mother, step-father, a 5-year-old son and a fiancé.

Superintendent Joseph A. D’Amico said, “We remember our fallen troopers throughout the year and we honor their memories. This sign bearing her name, in the community where she served, will remind all of Trooper Amanda Anna’s sacrifice. It is a fitting honor for her and it is indeed a great tribute to her memory.”

The Badge of Honor Association (BOHA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in Western New York and is comprised of volunteer members of law enforcement from across New York State.

BOHA was founded in May 2007 by a group of Rochester Police officers. The BOHA’s first goal was to dedicate commemorative plaques to honor Rochester Police Officers who were killed in the line of duty. The plaques can now be found at the locations where the officers made the ultimate sacrifice. BOHA has also put up signs to remember fallen officers from the Rochester Police Department, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police.

On July 26, 2011, BOHA, along with members of the New York State Police, Tonawanda Police Department and Erie County Highway Department dedicated a plaque to Trooper Kevin Dobson. Trooper Dobson was struck and killed by a motor vehicle during a traffic stop on March 26, 2011.  Trooper Dobson’s plaque was placed near I-290 and Colvin Boulevard in Tonawanda during a ceremony attended by his family, friends and fellow troopers.

Trooper Anna’s sign has been placed at the site where she crashed on County Route 37, approximately one mile west of State Route 11 in the town of Hastings.

This sign dedication is the start of BOHA’s month long tribute to fallen officers which will conclude at their annual Policeman’s Ball on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center in Rochester, NY. The organization is expecting more than 1,000 members of area Law Enforcement to be in attendance.
